Im Jahr 1983 berechnete Frank Storbeck, Informatiker, Geologe und wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter an der Universität von Amsterdam, den genauen Standort des Schwerpunkts der Niederlande. Der Computer wies auf ein Feld im Sprielderbos in der Gemeinde Putten hin, das an der Kreuzung Peppelerweg - Alte Prinsenweg liegt. Der Schwerpunkt ist etwas anders als der jedem bekannte Mittelpunkt der Niederlande, der auf einem Hügel im Wald von Lunteren liegt. Manche nennen den Schwerpunkt den Punkt, um den die Masse eines Körpers gleichmäßig verteilt ist. Harrie Hageman kam mit der ursprünglichen Idee, den genauen Standort des Schwerpunkts mit einem Erkennungszeichen zu versehen.
