Das Naturschutzgebiet Maashorst ist ein etwa 2400 Hektar großes zusammenhängendes Landschaftspark, das sich über das Gebiet der gleichnamigen Gemeinde sowie die Gemeinden Bernheze und Oss erstreckt. Ein Besucherzentrum befindet sich bei der Ortschaft Slabroek bei Nistelrode. Das Gebiet besteht aus einer Vielzahl unterschiedlicher Landschaftsarten: Nadelwälder, oft auf festgelegtem Sand, mehrere verstreute Heideflächen, einige kleine Teiche, modernes Landwirtschaftsgebiet, traditionelles Bauernland mit Feldern, nassen Wiesen und Gehölzen.
