St. Marien is located at an elevation of 338 m above sea level in the Upper Austrian central region, specifically in the geographic unit of Traun-Enns-Riedelland. It stretches 9 km from north to south and 8 km from west to east. The total area covers 37.6 km², making St. Marien the second largest municipality in the Linz-Land district. The municipal area mainly slopes down from south to north, with elevations ranging from 370 to 280 meters above sea level. In 2001, 80 percent of the municipal area was used for agriculture, 11 percent was forest, 5 percent was gardens, 0.8 percent was construction land, and 0.5 percent was water bodies. Other areas accounted for three percent of the municipal area. The municipal territory borders the city of Ansfelden to the north, St. Florian, Niederneukirchen, and Hofkirchen in Traunkreis to the east, Wolfern and Schiedlberg to the south, and Piberbach and Neuhofen an der Krems to the west.
