The main village of the municipality lies in the Lechtal on the rubble fan of the Höhenbach. The village was first mentioned in 1315 as Holzge, later as Holzgaw. In 1401 it became an independent parish. The village is especially known for its houses with painted facades. Some of these have been thoroughly renovated in recent decades. The Heimatmuseum provides an impression of the life of earlier generations in the higher part of the Lechtal. The Simms waterfall was built in the 19th century by the British industrialist Frederick Richard Simms.
