Nesselwängle is located at the entrance of the Tannheim Valley. The municipality also includes the centers of Rauth, Schmitte, and Haller.
Nesselwängle was situated on the former route of salt transport from Hall in Tyrol through the Tannheim Valley to the area around Lake Constance. Nowadays, a large part of the workforce is employed outside the municipal borders. Within the municipality, winter and summer tourism is an important source of income.
