Übersaxen is located in the westernmost federal state of Austria, Vorarlberg, in the Feldkirch district at an altitude of 899 meters. The municipality is essentially situated on the southern slope of the Laternsertal at its mouth to the Alpine Rhine Valley above the market town of Rankweil. The area covers 5.76 square kilometers. Of this, 53 percent is forested, and 33 percent is agricultural land.
