Atzenbrugg Castle is a castle located in the market town of Atzenbrugg in the western Tulln Basin in Lower Austria. It serves as a museum dedicated to the life and work of the composer Franz Schubert. The building is protected as a historical monument.
Already in the early 12th century, a "lordship," a property, is documented in the area of the present market town of Atzenbrugg. The name of the place is traced back to the owner Azzo. There is also evidence of Celtic and Carolingian inhabitants. Around 1190, a woman named Gertrud von Azzenpruck is mentioned, and since 1313, a coat of arms of the Lords of Azenbruck has been verifiable. The construction history of the current castle can be traced back to the Middle Ages. Initially, this castle had a moat. Since 1379, the country residence has been in the possession of the Klosterneuburg Monastery, and in 1398 an already existing chapel was expanded and consecrated to Saint Catherine.
