The former Salvatorian Monastery Hamberg is located on the Hamberg above the Inn, near Schardenberg close to Passau. It stands on the Austrian side of the border, just a few hundred meters from Bavaria.
The monastery was established there because, as a result of the Jesuit law of July 4, 1872, the Jesuits and Jesuit-like orders were not allowed to settle in Germany.
