The Montjola Waterfall has a main drop height of about 30 m and is located at the northern end of the municipality of Thüringen in Vorarlberg, Austria. The total drop height, across several stages to the powerhouse of the Schwarzbach hydroelectric plant, is about 80 m. The waterfall and the plateau of Quadern above it were formed by a meltwater stream alongside the glacial Ill Glacier from the Ice Age. The Montjola Waterfall is part of the discharge of the Schwarzbach, with a part of the water collected shortly before in the Montjola ponds on the Quadern plateau also being diverted through a pressure pipe to the Schwarzbach power plant. Since the commissioning of the new power plant in 2014, the amount of water extracted from the Schwarzbach has been limited, depending on precipitation, so that it does not significantly impair the Montjola Waterfall. The minimum water flow that must be channeled over the waterfall is 90 liters/second.
