Pitztal Bridge

The Pitztal Bridge is a road bridge in the Upper Inn Valley, east of Imst in Tyrol. It spans the Inn, the Arlberg Railway, and the access to Imst-Pitztal train station. The Pitztalstraße runs over it, connecting the Pitztal to the Tyrolean Road and the Inn Valley autobahn. Before the construction of the bridge, access to the Pitztal was a bottleneck; the road rose about 50 meters in elevation from the Tyrolean Road to the valley floor and steeply and windingly ascended again through the Arzler Forest on the other side. With increasing traffic, the desire for a faster and safer access to the valley and the glacier skiing area opened in 1983 at the end of the valley grew. The bridge was built over two years according to plans by Mayreder, Kraus & Co. and was inaugurated on September 24, 1983, with around 6000 visitors. The construction costs amounted to around 50 million schillings.
