Stopfenreuther Danube Round

Uferstraße, flood protection dam.

The path begins at the western end of Stopfenreuth. After crossing the protective dam, one enters the historic Brücklwiese, where the occupation of Stopfenreuther Au began in winter 1984. In spring, various species of orchids bloom on the expansive meadow. While crossing the Rosskopfarms, a quiet side arm with extensive reed banks, there is an opportunity to observe waterfowl: gray and silver herons, little grebes, or moorhens can be seen here. Ringed snakes like to sunbathe on the large stones of the riverbank fortification. Upon reaching the Danube, the route turns east and follows the path along the bank. During low water, large gravel areas are dry, often revealing astonishing driftwood. In summer, these areas serve as inviting wild bathing spots. From the Auterrasse, there is another elevated view over the Danube before the loop closes back to the village along the Uferstraße.
