Kals am Großglockner – Lucknerhaus

This hike leads through varied high alpine terrain, from larch woods up to Greiwiesen pasturelands, all the way to the Greibühel mountain (2,244 metres). Hikers are rewarded with stunning vistas of the Großglockner peak, the Figerhorn summit and the Kalsertal Valley. Hikers then head down to the Lucknerhaus. There, at 2,250 m, there is a themed trail called "BergeDenken" with ten interactive stations teaching visitors all about the Alps.
From the Glocknerhaus (national park information point) in Kals follow the road into the valley to the settlement of Burg as far as the Burger Hof and then cross the Burger Bach river. Turn right immediately towards Greibühel. Follow the wide trail uphill along the banks of the river. After passing the small chapel in the rocks, cross back over the Burger Bach once again and complete a series of switchback corners leading uphill. These then turn into a wider path heading towards Greiwiesen. Soon you will need to change back onto the footpath on the right (follow the signs for Greiwiesen). Then head left along a trail ("Greiwiesen") up, which becomes wider. Keep an eye out for a turning on the left heading towards "Greiwiesen". From here there is a series of switchback corners heading steeply uphill in a north-easterly direction to the "Greiwiesen" meadows. Cross these and continue uphill to the Greibühel mountain (2,244 metre). From the signpost, take the path towards "Ködnitztal, Lucknerhaus" and head downhill. The trail crosses a series of meadows and leads down to the Lucknerhaus. Next to the car park by the Lucknerhaus is the start of the "BergeDenken" themed trail. This leads into the valley (gently uphill) and then crosses the Ködnitzbach river before heading back out of the valley along the other side.
