A white-and-purple sea of crocuses, lush greeen meadows full of orchids and the firey red-and-orange shades of autumn – whatever the time of year, the Pfundser Tschey is always worth a visit. This unique high alpine valley above the village of Pfunds in the west of Tirol is known first and foremost for its traditional wooden huts used to store hay and its small stone chapels dotted across the landscape. An easy walk leads through the heart of this picture-perfect landscape and is suitable for pushchairs, buggies and wheelchairs. Keep your eyes open for the white chapel of Maria Schnee, which was built in 2004.
This easy walk starts at the last car park above Greit. Passing through a gate, walkers head into the Pfundser Tschey valley on trail number 7. The tarmac path (closed to traffic) heads in a north-easterly direction through the heart of the valley dotted with wooden hay huts. At the fork in the trail turn left and head uphill towards the Karlhütte (no food & drink served). Return along the way you came.
