Starkenberg Panoramic Trail

Emerald green lakes, mighty fortesses and thick forests make the Starkenberg Panoramic Trail – named after a powerful local noble family – a challenge that gives hikers rich rewards for their endeavours. Measuring just under 60 kilometres in length, it is divided up into seven stages and leads through the Gurgltal Valley and the Upper Inn Valley. From the deep blue Fernsteinsee lake on the Fernpass, where Austria and Germany converge, the next section is along an old Roman road known as the Via Claudia Augusta. Hikers will then pass the Salvesenklamm gorge near Tarrenz, before continuing to Starkenberg Castle and climbing up to the mighty Kronburg fortress towering above Zams. The Starkenberg Panoramic Trail concludes at Landeck Castle, which dates back to the 13th century. Most of this hiking trail is on paths rated easy and intermediate. With an average of 4.5 hours of hiking per day, it is suitable for families with children.
Stage 1: Fernpasshöhe – Fernsteinsee – Nassereith
