Description by the author

Local poet Ludwig Ganghofer once praised the beauty of these landscapes and excellent hunting grounds around the Tillfussalm with poetic prose. He wrote one of his most famous works, "Das Schweigen im Walde" ("The Silence of the Forest") in the Gaistal Valley. Even today, the high country around Tillfussalm is a popular meeting place for nature enthusiasts. Hikers and walkers enjoy the romantic Ganghoferweg Trail leading through beautiful Gaistal, especially the sight of peacefully grazing cows, who benefit from these excellent pastures and shady forests. If you are lucky, you may even catch a glimpse of one of the prime stag that are known to roam this region.
The hike starts in Leutasch at the pay-and-display car park next to the Salzbach river, at the entrance to the Gaistal Valley. A steep trail leads initially 150 vertical metres uphill from here, followed by an almost flat section (102 vertical metres) to the Tillfussalm hut.
