Marvin Gaye lived for a while in Moere during the 80s. The concert promoter & Ostend resident Freddy Cousaert took Gaye under his wing when he was in London, broke, addicted to cocaine and sex. Freddy Cousaert pulled him away from drugs and got him back on the right track.
The soul singer stayed in this district of Gistel in the impressive house, the White House. The house is now a listed monument because of the special verandas. Marvin Gaye wanted to buy the property because it had "good spirits." The songs Sexual Healing and Midnight Love were written here.
From Belgium he made his comeback with the album Midnight Love (1982) featuring the single 'Sexual Healing.'
In 1984 he returned to America to get his life back on track. In April of that year, he was shot dead by his own father in Los Angeles after an argument.
