The boat lifts are gigantic structures of 1350 tonnes on a canal linking La Louvière to Mons. The "Work of Art" of the Centre Canal makes it possible to cross the watershed between the basins of the Scheldt and the Meuse. Because the lifts work vertically, it is possible to bridge a height difference of more than 73 meters. This largest boat lift in the world can be visited and consists of two water troughs measuring 112 by 12 meters and a total weight of about 16,000 tons, 144 suspension cables and an elevator roof the size of a football field. The total passage time is about 40 minutes and can be admired in its entirety.
