One of the specialities of this city is of course the chocolates or "pralines". One of the places to taste these is at the shop "Daskalides".
The founder of this shop was the multi-talented Jean Daskalides, a "Ghentenaar" of Greek origin. He was not only an entrepreneur, but also a gynaecologist, a musician and a filmmaker creating the "Daskafilms". These films were showing the regional news and were played in the movie-theatres of Ghent.
Daskalides has about 60 types of pralines. The two traditional types you should definitely try are the ' Don Juan ' and the ` Merveilleux '.
