The most striking structure in the park is the triumphal arch, which was completed in 1905. The first architect appointed by King Leopold II was the Belgian architect Gédéon Bordiau. After his death, the king appointed the French architect Charles Girault.
The monument consists of three equal arches, with a bronze statue above the middle arch representing Brabant on a chariot drawn by four horses. At the foot of the triumphal arch, there are a total of eight statues on either side representing the other provinces. (Belgium had a total of 9 provinces when the triumphal arch was built. The state reforms changed this.) The statues were created by Thomas Vinçotte, Jef Lambeaux, Charles Van der Stappen, Albert Desenfans, and Guillaume De Groot. In 1988, the restoration of the team of horses on top of the triumphal arch was completed.
