Asiadok (perpendicular to Houtdok and parallel to Kempischdok) largely completed in 1871; enlargement in a northerly direction of 1888; connected to the Strasbourg dock in 1955-60. Initially so-called "Vaartdok" because the Kempische Vaart flowed out here, at the level of the current IJzerlaan, via lock number 17 (1873) which was filled in in 1935 (see also Kattendijkdok). The Asiadok received wood in the northern part. From 1877 to 1886, the only six municipal steam cranes operated on tracks on the south and west quays with coal transhipment, but the experiment failed due to frequent sabotage.
