The Valkenberg is known as one of the climbs used in the cycling classic Tour of Flanders. It's one of those nasty climbs where the Tour of Flanders is known for. In the past, this was a narrow cobbled road. But it was paved with asphalt in 1973. The climb was and is also a part of other famous cycling tours such as: Omloop Het Volk/Omloop Het Nieuwsblad and Dwars door Vlaanderen.
