't Sas is located at the downstream sedimentation of the Old Scheldt. The old sluice regulates the drainage of the Old Scheldt and prevents brackish Scheldt water from entering. The sluice was built in 1592 and is therefore the oldest hydraulic engineering monument in Flanders.
