The Hanssenspark with an area of 6 ha is located at vilvoorde station.
This park was created about a century ago on swampy grounds just outside the city walls. The park was commissioned by the city council, probably in collaboration with the local horticultural school.
The park is laid out according to the romantic English landscape style, quite classic to the general trend of the time. A pond was built centrally and is used as a fishing pond. In fact, a former water bowl was given a shape that fitted into the whole of the park. Worth mentioning is the beautiful iron suspension bridge over a narrowing of the pond. This suspension bridge was installed at a height of 3.5 m above the water level.
The Hanssenspark was reopened in 2004 after a thorough renovation.
