Description

This is located in a special nature reserve. In 1998, the Flemish government bought 100 hectares here
fields and meadows and a number of historically valuable buildings. The Agency for Nature and Forest manages the land, the buildings were leased to Erfgoed Vlaanderen, which has restored the buildings for the past 13 years.

The exploitation of the experience centre and the inspiration gardens rests with the vzw Abdijsite Herkenrode, a partnership between the City of Hasselt, Erfgoed Vlaanderen, vzw Herkenrode and the Agency for Nature and Forest.
In the experience centre you get the story of one of the first and especially richest women's abbeys in the Netherlands.
