You can't miss it: the old abbey of Herkenrode exudes a connection to the past. The historic buildings and the surrounding nature reserve showcase their charms every season. The domain of the abbey of Herkenrode allows you to enjoy at your own pace in a relaxed manner.
Once, Herkenrode was the wealthiest women's abbey in the Netherlands. Today, the historic buildings are beautifully restored or still under restoration. For instance, the artwork Clausura by Gijs Van Vaerenbergh is currently under construction, and our abbey church is being rebuilt as a genuine viewing church. But the Abbey of Herkenrode is more than just history.
It is also a 100 ha large oasis of tranquility in a beautiful nature domain. Around the abbey buildings, walking paths lead you to De Wijers with its 1001 ponds.
