Description

The impressive gatehouse of Alden Biesen was the former main entrance to the domain. The gate tower overlooks Maastricht. The gatekeeper stayed in the adjoining trumpeter house. The apostle house on the other side was intended in 1719-1720 by Landcommandeur Schönborn as a residence for twelve destitute people from the area. However, it has never fulfilled that function.
