Drongen is a junction of important traffic arteries: the E40 motorway, the R4, the national road 466, the ring canal around Ghent and the 50A Brussels-Ostend railway line. This railway was built as early as 1832. Dozens of trains for passenger transport pass here every day. The busy freight transport to the port of Zeebrugge also finds its way along here. On both middle tracks, the commercial speed is increased to 200 km/h. Both outer tracks are reserved for freight transport and local trains. These works will create unprecedented opportunities for freight transport. As a result of these works, the old station building was demolished at the end of 2010.
