In 1817 permission was granted to Mathieu Hoeken van Rotem and farmer Jean Smeets for the construction of a windmill by the Provincial Executive of Limburg. Originally this was a wooden sixteen-sided top crawler. The belt was raised in 1919 and on the old hull Godfried Truyen-Smeyers had the old sixteen-sided top crawler replaced by the current stone belt mill.
