The Spermaliehoeve was rebuilt in 1920. Originally (shortly before 1200), a monastery of the Order of Citeaux stood on that site. The monastery sisters primarily engaged in agriculture and reclaimed large areas of land for this purpose. As early as the 13th century, the sisters moved to Sijsele. The picturesque farmhouse is one of the examples of the typical polder farms with a monumental entrance gate. The shield and the year of the farmhouse are mentioned in the gate. The various buildings are grouped around the square courtyard. The material used is mainly brick. The Spermaliehoeve operates as a holiday farm and is also known for the annual performances of Willem Vermandere.
