During the construction of a parking lot at St. Rombout's Cathedral in 2010, a mass grave was discovered here. 41 skeletons were found stacked on top of each other. This mass grave dates back to the Peasants' War of 1798.
The attack on Mechelen failed and 41 peasant fighters were executed here at the foot of the Rombouts Tower.
