In the 10th century, the site of the current castle was a castle surrounded by water, which was part of a belt of fortifications along the Scheldt; the 15th-century cellar and the 16th-century tower are the oldest remains; In 1981, the castle, the imposing gate, the old dovecote tower and the elegant suspension bridge over the park pond were protected as monuments.
