Every year, a grand spectacle takes place on the Grand Place: the Combat dit Lumeçon - a symbolic battle in which a Saint George, seated on an armored horse, strikes down a dragon (mockingly called lumeçon, meaning worm) exactly at the moment the belfry strikes 1:00 PM. This celebration, unique in Belgium, takes place every year on Trinity Sunday, the Sunday after Pentecost (May or June). It is part of a procession. In the Car d'Or, on the morning of the Ducasse, the shrine of Saint Waltrudis is carried through the city in a procession that dates back to 1348, when the area of Mons was ravaged by the plague. The procession departs at 10:00 AM.
