Heusden is a place and community of the municipality of Destelbergen, in the Belgian province of East Flanders. Heusden was an independent municipality until 1977.
The oldest mention of the village is from when Abbot Othejbold recorded it in the 11th century in a document stating that the place would have belonged to the Saint Bavo Abbey before the invasion of the Normans. Later, it fell under the lords of Heusden. After the marriage in 1212 of Beatrix of Heusden to Zeger III, the burgrave of Ghent, the burgraviate of Ghent was transferred to Heusden. Heusden remained under the burgraves of Ghent until the end of the Ancien Régime.
