The region around Meldert has a typical loamy soil that is very suitable for agriculture, although in lower parts the soil is sometimes a bit too moist. The name Meldert is therefore linked to its soil and vegetation. Perhaps the name was derived from a plant, the garden masked or mild, which was grown as a vegetable along the lines of spinach. Meldert would then mean: soil with meldekruid.
