November 1988: The Brave Citizen – organizer Louis Willems.
To officially inaugurate the Hams Heldenplein, ’t Menneke was erected as a statue. Officially named “The Brave Citizen.” It had to be something from the residents themselves. It needed to be a peaceful yet pleasant little man. A resident of Ham is proud, humble, calm, and cheerful. All of this is encapsulated in the Brave Citizen. By the way, everyone sees a resemblance to their grandfather in it.
