From our guesthouse that is located in the historic schoolmaster's house you can go between the fields to the abbey of Herkenrode. The schoolmaster's house has been inhabited by the Leus family for about 100 years. The father and also four of his daughters and a son have all been in education and have all taught in the adjacent school and have also been headmaster there. The last was Miss Marie who was just under 101 years old. Miss Marie was also always consulted before going to a doctor. Some of the older Stokrooienaren still have an ointment prepared with herbs from her own garden in the cupboard.
