The Brussels Kapellekerk is the popular name of the Gothic Onze-Lieve-Vrouw-ter-Kapellekerk, located at the end of Hoogstraat, near the working-class Marolles district. (wikipedia, n.d.).
Duke Godfried I of Brabant had a small chapel built here in the 12th century. This chapel grew into a full-fledged church between the 13th and 15th centuries.
This church building is a magnificent example of late Brabantine Gothic.
In addition, the Kapellekerk is also connected to painter Pieter Bruegel the Elder (1525-1569): his marriage took place here and he is buried here. A gravestone commemorates these events. In front of the church, there is also a statue of Bruegel.
The Kapellekerk is part of the "Flemish Masters" project organized by Toerisme Vlaanderen.
