Mortier is a village in the municipality of Blegny, Belgium. Mortier is located in the Walloon province of Liège and was an independent municipality until 1 January 1977. The seigneury of Mortier was traditionally a Carolingian possession. In the 10th century it came to the chapter of Our Lady in Aachen, which appointed the guardian, actually the lord. This remained the case until the Liège Revolution at the end of the 18th century. Mortier became part of the County of Dalhem. The first known guardian was Renier Coye, who held this position in the early 14th century. In 1557 Mortier came to the King of Spain and in 1686 he sold the guardianship again.
