The lordship of Sint-Pauwels was part of the direct possessions of the counts of Flanders.
From 1551 to 1594, Sint-Pauwels had its own college. Afterwards, it was merged with Kemzeke and Stekene until the early 17th century. Then it remained united with Kemzeke until the end of the 18th century. Noteworthy is the Saint Paul’s Church with its choir and tower dating back to 1494. Two 17th-century side altars, a communion bench, and wainscoting are in the Louis XIV style. The church owns a painted calvary by L. De Heere.
