Castle of Beaver

Description

All that remains of the old castle is an imposing hill or motte. The originally wooden building was replaced by a stone keep in the course of the 12th century. It was surrounded by two ramparts and moats of 20 to 25 meters wide.
The motte castle showed the power of the Counts of Hainaut. The castle was inhabited until 1434, when the last lord of Bever died. After this, everything fell into ruins. In 2010, peaceful cows graze here. Still, the soil revealed some secrets. In 1964 a lot of remains were uncovered. You can see these in the regional museum in Halle.
