Maasmechelen Village is an outlet shopping center that opened in 2001 in Maasmechelen, established by the British company Value Retail Plc, founded in 1992, and led by American entrepreneur and real estate specialist Scott D. Malkin. The shopping center was built in 2001 as part of the redevelopment of the local mining site of the Eisden coal mine. The shopping center is located next to the two headframes of the Eisden mine, which closed in 1987. The Limburg Reconstruction Company, which was involved, aimed to stimulate employment for low-skilled workers.
