The first mentions of 'Croonendael' date from 1420. The typical rural castle bears witness to a U-shaped construction in Mosan Renaissance, originally dating from the 17th century. This can be deduced from the characteristic brick construction with horizontal bands, corner chains and window frames in marlstone. The castle owes its majestic view to its open location in an English park and to what remains of the wide moats from the 18th century. It was not until the end of the 18th century that the castle was renovated according to the French Rococo and Classicism styles. Large windows with frames in Namur bluestone, French windows and a triangular pediment with the coat of arms of Baron de Rosen de Borgharen are proof of this. In the castle there is a central salon decorated with stucco, flower garlands, vases, turtledoves and fruit baskets. The associated castle farm also dates from the 17th century. The park in English landscape style was created later. The park contains remnants of the destroyed Jonkholt fort. Since 1861, the castle and park have been privately owned and not open to the public.
