The Sint-Odulfuskerk in Borgloon is a cruciform basilica with five naves, dedicated to Saint Odulfus. It is located in the center of the city, near the place where the castle of Loon used to stand.
Already in 1027 a chapter of canons was attached to the church. They worshipped, managed the parish's lease, and provided education and soul care for the community. In 1047, the Archdeacon of Liège dedicated the church to Saint Peter, Paul and Odulfus and the church was mentioned for the first time in the writings. In the same year, seven were added to the five prebends already existing by Herman, canon of Liège, being the brother of Emmo, Count of Loon. In 1130-1131 the prayer house was replaced by a Romanesque church, using silex, boulders and sandstone as building materials. A partially preserved and dated ordination stone on which Christ, Peter and Paul are represented testifies to this pediod. This stone was above the portal until 1786, after which it was moved. It is now embedded in an inner wall of the monastery building. It is remarkable that this stone is dated by J. de Borchgrave d'Altena and J.J.M. Timmers to the period after 1180, since the church was set on fire by Liège soldiers in 1180. Very soon after these hostilities, the house of worship was restored by the then Loon count Gerard van Loon.
