The tree is said to have been planted around 800 on the border of the seigneuries of Kortessem and Wellen. The trunk circumference was once 10 meters, but storms and tides have not spared the tree. In the 18th century, this oak was a rendezvous place for the Buck Riders and the impressive story goes that there was once room for a table and four card players in the hollow trunk.
