The oldest parts of the church are the heavy square tower and the northern part of the left aisle. The tower received its specific spire in 1815. The classical west portal was transferred from the abbey of Affligem in 1838, from which the church had been dependent since the first half of the 12th century.
On June 25, 1969, a part of the vault collapsed; the restoration was completed in 1990.
Very valuable are the fixed furniture including confessionals and screens, the pulpit, the organ, the stained glass windows, the numerous art objects and treasures, ornaments, and paintings that belong to the heritage of the church dedicated to Our Lady of Suffering.
