Description

The domain on the Reigersbosdreef is known by different names: Sterrenhof, Reigershof, Hof van Delft or Hof Legrelle. The Van Delft family had the castle built and has owned the domain since the 16th century. The Legrelle family is the current resident. The name Reigershof indicates the importance of this area for this bird. In the early 20th century, the forest near the castle was an important habitat for a heron colony, which even belonged to one of the largest colonies in Western Europe. However, the heron population has declined sharply in recent decades.
