On the south side of the Grote Markt, you can see the town hall. The oldest part, dating from the period 1769 to 1771, was designed by architect Hendrik Bultinck from Bruges in Louis XV style. The elegant little turret was designed by the Roeselare native Jacob Caytan. The pediment of the gable displays the coat of arms of the patron Charles Theodor of Neuburg, lord of Roeselare. The building was severely damaged at the end of WW I. To solve the space shortage, city architect René Doom constructed the ‘new town hall’ in 1924-1925, drawing inspiration from the former city hall.
