On the Bossuit-Kortrijk Canal, the ships in Moen initially went underground for a while: they had to go through a tunnel of 611 meters. During work on the canal in the 1970s, that tunnel was replaced by an open channel. This resulted in 225,000 trucks of clay, which were dumped on an agricultural area next to the canal.
In 1988, the 26-hectare area was transferred to the Agency for Nature and Forest and opened to the public in 2001. You can now go for a walk in a beautiful and diverse green area, including forest, hayfield, pools and roughs. Shetland ponies are the lawn mowers of service. You can explore the forest with the Orveyt hiking trail or the hiking network 'Land of Mortagne'.
