The Royal Museum for Central Africa, one of the most visited museums in the country, was built under Leopold II, by architect Charles Girault. The building is 125m long and 75m wide. The façade faces the French gardens. On the east side of these French gardens, a sculpture group by Tom Frantzen was placed in 1997 on the occasion of 100 years of colonial exhibition. The monument "The Congo, I presume. Congo-Tervuren 1897-1997" is intended as an artistic expression of the Belgian past in Congo and pays tribute to the intrinsic beauty of the African fighters.
