Das Königliche Museum für Mittelafrika, eines der meistbesuchten Museen des Landes, wurde unter Leopold II. von dem Architekten Charles Girault erbaut. Das Gebäude ist 125 m lang und 75 m breit. Die Fassade ist auf die französischen Gärten ausgerichtet. An der Ostseite dieser französischen Gärten wurde 1997 eine Skulpturengruppe von Tom Frantzen anlässlich von 100 Jahren Kolonialausstellung aufgestellt. Das Denkmal "The Congo, I presume. Congo-Tervuren 1897-1997" soll als künstlerischer Ausdruck der belgischen Vergangenheit in Kongo dienen und zollt der intrinsischen Schönheit der afrikanischen Krieger Tribut.
